City of Sundance

The City of Sundance maintenance crew agreed to donate their time and equipment for the digging/roughing in the walkway and hauling the gravel which will be used for the base of the walkway and the steps along the east end.

The Sundance Rod and Gun Club and members of the Boy Scout Troop 62 volunteered to donate their time to do the manual labor/finishing work on the pathway, smoothing the gravel, reseeding the bank, and building the steps at the east end.

Pete Lien and Sons of Rapid City (Sundance) donated the gravel for the project.

The CCNRD is coordinator of the project and provided funds for any project costs not donated -many of the materials were donated.

BACKGROUND INFO:

During the spring of 2001, 2002, and 2003 the CCNRD was a recipient of a Wyoming Game and Fish Commissioner’s License, donated each time by District 6 G&F Commissioner Kerry Powers. The resulting funds from the sale of these licenses can be used to promote wildlife related projects in Crook County. The licenses were sold by E-bay in 2001 and sealed bid in 2002 and 2003. The funds totaling $18,378.00 have accumulated since 2001.

During the January 2003 CCNRD board meeting, the Board of Supervisors decided that they needed to make it a priority to utilize this funding. They requested Terry Everard, NRCS District Conservationist and Rod and Gun Club member, to visit with the Rod and Gun Club and Tracy Pinter, Wildlife Habitat Biologist in Newcastle regarding some public benefit project ideas. During the February meeting, Terry and Tracy were present to bring to the table the ideas that were recommended for the CCNRD funds. Two of the projects that were considered were the Sundance Pond Pathway and the renovation of the Seeley Pond (Medicine Lake) road.
