Forestry Workshop, hosted by CCNRD with guest speakers from Wyoming State Forestry Division and NRCS
Thank you to everyone who attended! This workshop was designed to provide information about Fire Mitigation and Conservation Forestry. Over 20 people were in attendance and guest speakers from Wyoming State Forestry and NRCS gave very interesting presentations! If you could not make it and would like to learn more about Defensible Space, Fire Mitigation and/or Conservation Forestry, please call the office. We have a video and handouts that are very informative. Did you know there is a program to help landowners create a defensible space around their homes through Wyoming State Forestry? Call the Growth and Development office for details (307-283-1540). or Jeff Garman, at 283-2778 or 290-2237 for more information about this program. We also have applications and information in our office and plan to host another workshop again in the future.
Educational Booths at John Deere Days and Crook County Fair
During the annual John Deere Days Event and Crook County Fair, CCRND put together a poster board and spent time talking with landowners and disseminating information about what we do. We had a table full of pamphlets, handouts and information for people to take and read. At the County Fair we handed out a questionnaire asking folks for feedback on what they would additional programs we can provide.
"Get to know your Conservation District" Public Meeting
On April 25, 2006 CCNRD hosted a public meeting to inform residents of what we do as a conservation district, and what we hope to do in the future. This was an opportunity for folks to meet the board and staff, ask questions and provide feedback on what programs they want CCNRD to provide. Amanda gave a presentation introducing the board and about the role of conservation districts and Yarrow gave a presentation on the 319 grant, cost share program and Belle Fourche River Watershed Plan.
Public Meetings
In January 2006, four public meetings were held around the County in Pine Haven, Sundance, Moorcroft and Hulett to inform residents about our cost share program and provide an opportunity for folks to meet with the board an staff in person. A power point presentation was prepared and ran on a timer describing the cost share program, the Belle Fourche River Watershed Plan and before and after pictures of past successful projects. Posters were made demonstrating the both the Animal Feeding Operation (AFO) and the Septic System part of the cost share program and displayed at each of the meetings along with cost share applications, handouts and information about the watershed plan. Refreshments were served and board members and staff were available to answer any questions and meet people. Since the landowner letter was sent out just before these meetings, we had a good turn out—over 25 peopled showed up. Many great discussions were formed out of these meetings and in turn people applied for the cost share program: five applications in total for the first round, and three applications for the second round.
